Get started

Create your first snippet

Open Snippets from the utility rail and choose New snippet.
Give it a title you'll recognize, such as “Support follow-up”. Write the text you want to reuse.
For each part that should change, add an instruction inside double braces. Save your snippet.
Open a conversation and focus its message field. Choose your snippet from Snippets or find it in Magic Bar with /snippet.
For a smart snippet, review the filled text. Edit it if needed, then choose Insert or Copy text.

How smart snippets work

Keep your wording. Tell Franz what should change.

Text outside the double braces stays exactly as you wrote it. Each instruction inside them is filled separately using available context.

What Franz can use

The conversation matters.

Smart snippets start with recent messages from the open conversation. Depending on the service and your instruction, Franz can include relevant context it already has.

Franz Mail	Recent emails, senders, recipients, dates, and replies. Ask about a topic to use relevant earlier exchanges with the same person. Available document text and sender or company background can also help.
WhatsApp	Recent messages, participants, mentions, and quoted replies. Earlier discussion, existing chat summaries, and available voice transcripts can help when relevant.
Signal	Recent messages, participants, mentions, and quoted replies. Relevant earlier messages from the same chat and available voice transcripts can also be used.
Other services	Readable content from the open page. Franz has less detail about who said what, so the quality can vary.

Relevant writing preferences you've saved can guide the style. The instructions in your snippet take precedence.

In the review, open Context used to inspect the selected conversation excerpts. Check the source before relying on a date or commitment.

Getting better results

Adjust one instruction at a time.

The reply is too general: name the topic and say which question it should answer.
It's too long: ask for a sentence, a word count, or a few bullets.
A detail is missing: check Context used. Add a fallback such as “ask me to confirm the date”.
The tone feels wrong: describe it plainly, such as “friendly and direct”. Keep any wording you want unchanged outside the braces.

Use Regenerate to try the instructions again. You can also edit the preview yourself before inserting it.

What if there's no conversation open?

Open the conversation and run the snippet there. If Franz offers Insert as written, you can use the saved text and fill in the instructions yourself.

Can I use snippets offline?

Your saved snippets are stored locally, and plain snippets work offline. Smart snippets need an available AI model. Hosted providers need an internet connection.

Which plan includes snippets?

Plain snippets are available with Pro. Smart snippets are available with Max and fill in your instructions using the eligible model selected in Franz. Your snippets sync with your Franz account.

Is there special syntax to learn?

Put each instruction between two opening and two closing braces. An instruction can't be empty or contain another set of braces. You can use up to 16 instructions in a snippet.
