Workspace limit on the free plan
Understand why the free Franz plan includes one workspace, what happens when you reach that limit, and how Pro unlocks more workspaces later.
Back to SupportThe free Franz plan includes one workspace. That workspace is enough to keep your services in one place, but it does not unlock separate workspace contexts for different projects, clients, or teams.
When your account is on the free plan and already has one workspace, Franz prevents creating another one. In the desktop app, the Workspaces settings page shows your current usage and changes the add button into an upgrade action. Nothing is removed from your existing workspace when you reach the limit. Your installed services, tabs, and local settings stay where they are.
Upgrade to a Pro plan if you need more than one workspace. Pro unlocks unlimited workspaces, so you can split work, personal, client, or team communication without changing how your existing services are configured. After the upgrade is active, return to Settings -> Workspaces and add the new workspace from there.
If you previously used multiple workspaces during a trial and later move back to the free plan, keep using the workspace that remains available. Franz does not delete your local service data as part of the plan change, but free-plan limits apply again when you try to create or expand workspace usage.
