Installation & Updates

Install Franz on macOS

Fix macOS Gatekeeper or damaged app warnings when installing Franz, move it to Applications, and open the trusted website download safely on your Mac.

Back to Support

macOS can block new desktop apps when they were downloaded outside the App Store, or show a warning that the app is damaged. With Franz, start by making sure you are using the current installer from the official website and that the app is installed in the normal macOS location.

Install and open Franz

  1. Download Franz from the Franz website instead of a mirror, download portal, or repackaged installer site.
  2. Open the downloaded .dmg file and drag Franz into the Applications folder. Running Franz from Downloads can make permission and update checks less reliable.
  3. Open Finder, go to Applications, then open Franz from there. If macOS shows a Gatekeeper warning, choose Open from the Finder context menu and confirm the prompt.
  4. If macOS says the app is damaged, delete the copy in Applications, download Franz again from the official website, and repeat the install. A damaged-app warning often means the download was incomplete or macOS quarantined a stale copy.
  5. After Franz opens once, pin it to the Dock from the running app if you want quick access.

Do not install Franz over an older copy that is still running. Quit Franz first, replace the app in Applications, then start it again so macOS and the auto-updater see one clean installation.
