Using Franz for business: licensing, teams, and account sharing

How Franz licensing works for companies: commercial use is allowed, each person needs their own licence, account sharing isn't, and Franz for Teams fits teams.

Back to Support

Yes, you can use Franz at work. Commercial and business use is fully allowed. What matters is how licences map to people, so this article explains the rule and how to set up a whole team.

One licence covers one person

A Franz licence is personal to a single person. That person can install and use Franz across their own devices, for example a work laptop and a desktop at home, and their services, workspaces, and settings sync between those machines when they sign in.

What a licence does not cover is being shared between several people. You may not share one account or login so that multiple colleagues use it, whether at the same time or in shifts.

Multiple devices vs. multiple people

We apply a fair-use policy to multi-device use. A single person moving between their own laptop, desktop, and other devices is exactly what a licence is for, and you do not need to count devices or ask us for permission.

Usage that looks like several different people sharing one account, rather than one person working across their own devices, is not covered by a single licence. This is the line between fair personal use and account sharing.

Setting up a team

If several people in your company need Franz, each of them needs their own licence. You have two ways to do that:

  • Buy a licence per person. Each operator or employee signs up and holds their own licence.
  • Use Franz for Teams. One team manager manages the licences for everyone under a single plan and a single bill. The manager handles billing and can add or remove members, but cannot read anyone's messages.

For a concrete example: a company with 6 operators who each need to work in Franz requires 6 licences, not one shared account. The number of messaging accounts you connect (for instance 3 WhatsApp numbers) is independent of that, since licences are counted per person, not per connected service.
